Stop Licking the Car

Dear Donor, 

Perks were your astrological sign and whether or not you prefer dogs over cats, which we were happy to see you like cats. There are so many intimate details that I know about you that would imply that we would have some sort of bond, yet I wouldn’t know if you passed me on the street. Your medical history, your parents’ and grandparents’ medical history, and the number of sexual partners you have had and your lack of drug use were things that we marked in our spreadsheet of possible suitors.  Your love of the arts and sports along with our similar looks convinced me you were pretty much a male version of me, maybe a long lost relative? 

We loved that the person you admire most was your mother. We got a glimpse of your silly side when you shared the story from your senior relays where you wiped out at the end in front of your classmates and you bowed gracefully. The advice to your future children is to find their passions and to find happiness in their lives. I don’t know if you have children of your own but if you do I have no doubt that they are truly lucky to have someone like you. We giggled at the observations of the cryobank staff as they described you as a dreamy athletic brawny man with piercing green eyes. They may have also commented on your athletic thighs which lead us to believe that the person writing your blurb may moonlight as a romance author. 

While I mostly see my wife when I look at our son, you peek through as a selfless reminder that without you we would not be parents. Flashes of your childhood photo appear when I see him smile, when I am taming those pesky cow licks, and when I look into those big green eyes of his. The time will come when our son asks about who you are and just know that we will make sure he knows that your are a creative, smart, unselfish man who truly wanted individuals to live out their dreams to be parents. You are the reason I am a mom, and I will be forever in your debt. Thank you wherever you are.
